A Guide to Parker VA179-70

Working at extreme high temperatures will put a strain on any product, from large machinery to o-rings. For years, manufacturers were stuck with high-cost materials that had limited success at extremely high temperatures. This was especially true when working with rubber compounds such as fluorocarbons, or FKMs.

Parker looked to combat this problem with the introduction of their breakthrough compound, VA 179-70. This high temperature fluorocarbon compound increases the FKM continuous high temperature limit to an additional 20 degrees Celsius over standard FKM materials.

With this 20-degree improvement, VA 179-70 can withstand temperatures ranging from -10 degrees to 437 degrees Fahrenheit. But with the VA 179 technology, manufacturers can find the same outstanding results in a much more cost-effective product offering.

The Parker VA 179-70 o-ring consists of a 70-durometer rubber providing breakthrough temperature limits while also garnering similar chemical resistance and low temperatures of previous standard FKM products.

But with VA 179-70, costs are lower with similar results and additional benefits. As a compound, VA 179-70 is found in Parker o-ring products and can be purchased through Parker o-ring distributors; or it can be found on custom molded parts needed for extreme temperature applications.

The applications for this technology run the spectrum, finding a spot in the line wherever extreme temperatures are involved and sealing applications need to hold strong in such conditions. This includes automotive sealing and industrial oil and gas applications, while also finding use in aerospace and heavy-duty machinery. Additionally, this product is oil and hydraulic fluid resistant while also compatible with diesel, biodiesel and flex fuels.
